Sofia Cava

Sofia Cava is a senior at Duke University majoring in Public Policy with a minor in Psychology and a certificate in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. The daughter of Peruvian immigrants, she is deeply passionate about examining how complex policy structures shape the lived experiences of immigrant communities and discovering new pathways for bipartisan consensus. Sofia has worked closely with the immigrant community in Durham, tutoring for GANO, conducting research for the Bass Connections Celebra mi herencia: Spanish Reading Program project, and serving as co-president of Beyond Borders, Duke’s immigrant rights club. After graduation, Sofia plans to take a gap year before applying to law school, hoping to become and immigration lawyer and later transition into a policy-focused career where she can play a meaningful role in shaping the nation’s next bipartisan immigration reform bill. In her free time, she enjoys training for half marathons, improving her pottery skills, and visiting local farmers markets.
