Lyla Miller is a senior from Greenwich, CT, receiving her B.A. in Public Policy, with a minor in History and a certificate in Markets and Management. She is interested in the intersection of law, policy, and justice, particularly how legal systems shape equity and access to rights. Outside of her coursework, Lyla has spent her time engaging in a variety of research projects and advocacy efforts. She is an active member of the Bass Connections project entitled “Open Access Portal on Chinese Law and Policy,” contributing to efforts compiling and analyzing literature on Chinese law and policy, and is participating in an internship with the Center for Death Penalty Litigation, where she contributes to a research project analyzing the history of death penalty in North Carolina. Lyla is also a member of the Duke Justice Project’s Expungement Team, through which she files expunction petitions for members of the local Durham community. To further her efforts towards justice and engagement in Durham, she serves as a volunteer at StepUp, tutoring children while their parents attend re-entry classes. After graduation, Lyla hopes to pursue a career in the law and policy realm that allows her to continue combining research, advocacy, and community engagement.
