Maya Alexander is a senior from Atlanta, GA receiving her B.A. in Public Policy and Computer Science with a minor is Sociology. Completing an Interdepartmental Major entitled “Elevating Society through Technical Innovation,” Maya has spent her time at Duke evaluating the intersection between technology, policy, and ethics. Outside of coursework, Maya has gained practical experience by working with the NC Office of Digital Equity and Literacy, researching North Carolina’s digital divide; Frances Haugen’s Duty of Care project, cataloging harms of social media for young children; and in Sanford’s Technology Policy Lab, directing the Cyber Policy and Gender Violence Initiative under David Hoffman. Apart from her academic involvements, Maya is a passionate dancer and artist, currently serving as the President of Embodiment Contemporary Dance Company and teaching ballet classes in the local Durham community. After graduation, Maya hopes to keep exploring both her creative and academic interests in the technology policy space, continuing to seek out opportunities which promote ethical and equitable practices within the realm of technology.
