Graduation Requirements

2-Year MPP Degree Requirements

  • 51 minimum total credit hours
  • Completion of all Core MPP classes
  • Sanford Ethics course (3 credit hours)
  •  Management/Leadership courses (6 credit hours)*
  • Completion of a Master’s Project
  • Completion of a policy Internship

MPP Dual Degree Requirements

  • 39 minimum total credit hours
  • Completion of all Core MPP classes
  • Sanford Ethics course (3 credit hours)
  • Completion of a Master’s Project
  • Completion of a policy Internship
  • Completion of partner program degree

Policy Concentration Requirements

  • 9 credit hours of specific electives are required to concentrate (you can see qualifying courses in Stellic)
  • Some concentrations require a foundation course:
    • Social policy requires PubPol 850, Intro to Social Policy
    • Health policy requires PubPol 825, Topics in Health Policy

To declare a policy concentration, please complete a Policy Concentration Intent form before the add/drop period of your final MPP semester (visit the Policy Concentrations page to access the intent form).

*Activities that count toward the Management/Leadership Requirement

  • Successful completion of the Sanford Board Leadership Initiative satisfies 3 credit hours of the Management/Leadership requirement. It does not count toward the 51 credit hours needed to graduate. You can notify the SBLI Leadership Team of your plans to use SBLI as part of your Management/Leadership requirement on the final project submission form.
  • Participation in MPP Student Council (as an elected representative) satisfies 3 credit hours of the Management/Leadership requirement. It does not count toward the 51 credit hours needed to graduate. You can notify your academic advisor of your plans to use MPP Student Council as part of your Management/Leadership requirement by sending your advisor a message on Stellic (click the envelope icon in them top right corner of your home screen in Stellic).
