Originally from south Georgia, Kate comes to Durham most recently from Massachusetts, where she graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2022 with dual degrees in Political Science and Sociology. Her policy focus lies in child advocacy, particularly in the areas of child abuse prevention, juvenile diversion efficacy, and digital protections for youth. Prior to starting at the Sanford school, Kate worked as a senior researcher at the MIT Election Data and Science Lab, where she advocated for equitable American election policies and worked to strengthen local election infrastructures. While her policy interests have shifted since coming to Duke, Kate’s passion for solving complex problems that have a real-world impact remain. In her free time, she can be found reading novels, teaching indoor cycling at Wilson gym, and eating desserts.
