Azar is from Baku, Azerbaijan. He graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Economics with a bachelor’s and master’s degree with a major in international economics. Before Sanford, Azar worked at leading research and policymaking institutions in Azerbaijan. He started his professional career at the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Then he joined the Financial Monitoring Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a national AML/CFT authority. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Policy program at Sanford School. He is especially interested in development issues and envisages a career in economic development fields. Deriving from his background, Azar aims to increase his competencies in diverse spheres of economic policymaking.
