Recent Graduate Tech Fellows Program

Meet our Class of 2021 Fellows on this page!

Program Goals:

  • Increase external visibility for Duke’s tech policy efforts
  • Promote increased engagement for Duke’s tech policy program with public policy stakeholders
  • Deepen Duke graduates’ connections to Duke University and the Sanford School

Elements of the Program:

  • Non-residential
  • Unpaid
  • Applicants apply in the Spring of each year for a two-year fellow appointment starting in August (the beginning of the Fall semester). Applicants can apply for reappointment
  • Fellows will be featured on the Duke Sanford Technology Policy Website

Benefits to the Fellows:

  • Participation in a peer group of Duke recent graduates active in tech policy
  • Ability to publish blogs, articles and papers and have that work promoted by Duke
  • Engage with Duke students and faculty including participation in campus tech policy activities such as the Sanford Cyber Cup and the Ethical Tech Competition
  • Feature on the Sanford website and ability to list the Fellows program on CV and in bios

Selection Criteria:

  • Required: Must have graduated from Duke in the past 10 years
  • The application should describe:
    • Tech policy research done while a Duke undergraduate or graduate student
    • Work done to support the Sanford tech policy program
    • Engagement in tech policy as part of post Duke career

Fellows Responsibilities:

  • A commitment to publish a blog or paper each semester on the Sanford Tech Policy Lab website. Joint authorship with current Duke faculty and students is encouraged
  • A commitment to participate in a student discussion each semester to focus at least in part on early career guidance
  • A commitment to provide feedback to faculty and students on Sanford Tech Policy Lab research
  • A commitment to engage with other Fellows to create a peer collaboration group for project feedback and career advice
  • A commitment to feature the “Duke Tech Policy Fellow” designation in online biographies and bylines

Oversight:

  • Professors David Hoffman and Ken Rogerson will oversee Fellows selection and engagement
