{"id":628,"date":"2024-02-07T18:56:57","date_gmt":"2024-02-07T18:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.sanford.duke.edu\/krishna\/?page_id=628"},"modified":"2024-02-22T15:52:03","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T20:52:03","slug":"govindia","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.sanford.duke.edu\/krishna\/govindia\/","title":{"rendered":"Governance\/India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.sanford.duke.edu\/krishna\/govindia\/books\/\">Book(s)<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.sanford.duke.edu\/krishna\/govindia\/papers\/\">Papers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I served for more than ten years as a public administrator before taking a PhD and becoming a researcher and professor. <span class=\"s2\">I was recruited to the Indian Administrative Service in 1982, after doing graduate work at the Delhi School of Economics and th<\/span><span class=\"s2\">e Kennedy School of Government. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">I developed and implemented a number of policies and programs and found the intellectual challenge of work in public affairs very gratifying, but after a return to academics \u2013 as a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at Cornell University between 1993 and 1995 \u2013 I believed that I could make a greater contribution by returning to research and learning<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> working on \u201cthe state-of-the-art<\/span><span class=\"s2\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> b<\/span><span class=\"s2\">uilding upon my years of responsible field experience. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">The combination of these experiences<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> has<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> t<\/span><span class=\"s2\">aught<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> me that planning and implementation <\/span><span class=\"s2\">should<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">not<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">be regarded as <\/span><span class=\"s2\">separate activities. Failure <\/span><span class=\"s2\">has <\/span><span class=\"s2\">quite often <\/span><span class=\"s2\">result<\/span><span class=\"s2\">ed<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> from forcing this separation<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> on decisions and personnel<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> Bringing research and practice together is necessary for advancing the frontiers of practically relevant information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">My earliest publications relate to this area and are based on what I saw of innovations in public administration. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">I remain deeply <\/span><span class=\"s2\">committed to<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> action-oriented research.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Book(s)\u00a0|\u00a0Papers I served for more than ten years as a public administrator before taking a PhD and becoming a researcher and professor.
