William Darity Jr.
Samuel DuBois Cook Professor
William Darity Jr. is the Samuel DuBois Cook Professor of Public Policy, African and African American Studies, Economics, and Business at Duke University and the director of Duke’s Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity. In 2024 he was named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association and the inaugural recipient of the William Spriggs Memorial Award by the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. He is the coauthor with A. Kirsten Mullen of the award-winning book, From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the Twenty-First Century.
Rev. Dr. M. Keith Daniel
Co-Founder and Managing Director for Resilient Ventures, LLC
Rev. Dr. M. Keith Daniel is the Co-Founder and Managing Director for Resilient Ventures, LLC a committed capital fund investing in African American-led high-growth companies. Resilient launched Fund I in 2018 and invested $2.1M in 11 in early-stage companies led by African Americans. Resilient is currently raising and deploying Fund II capital which stands at $6.5M towards it’s $10M target. Dr. Daniel owns Madison Consulting Group, LLC (MCG), a company committed to serving individuals and institutions striving for the greatest good where all flourish in work and life outcomes.
As an executive leader, Dr. Daniel served as the Executive Director of Operations and Strategic Partnerships for StepUp North Carolina, the Executive Director of DurhamCares, Inc, and as a Duke University Chapel minister and Director of the Program for the Theological Exploration of Vocation known as PathWays. He led and grew the multi-million-dollar initiative funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. into what is the Chapel’s core student ministry and was promoted to the post of Director of Community and Campus Engagement.
Additionally, Dr. Daniel career in higher education spans over three decades includes director-level positions in the Duke Career Center, the Fuqua School of Business, Duke Human Resources, Duke Chapel and the Duke Divinity School. He directed the Duke LEAD Summer Business Institute hosted by the Fuqua School of Business (1994-97, 2002-2020). In 2011, he helped launch the inaugural Summer Youth Business and Entrepreneurship Academy inspired by LEAD at North Carolina Central University School of Business. Dr. Daniel served as the Interim Director of the Office of Black Church Studies at Duke Divinity School and Program Director for Duke’s 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Integration of Black Students. Dr. Daniel is Duke Divinity School Instructor, Special Projects.
As an ordained, American Baptist minister and organization consultant, Keith compassionately serves throughout Durham and the Mid-Atlantic region as a mentor, pastor, facilitator, and community change agent. He serves as an advisor/board director for the NCCU Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Justice Matters, Duke University Chapel, and the Duke Health Chaplain Services and Education.
Daniel earned his B.A. degree in Comparative Area Studies with a focus on Latin America as a scholar-athlete in football and track at Duke. He holds a Master of Higher Education Administration, North Carolina State University, the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Duke Divinity School.
Keith enjoys spending time with his community and family especially his wife Lorna and two young adult, children Madison II and Loren.
Jaylon Herbin
Director of Federal Campaigns at the Center for Responsible Lending
Jaylon Herbin is the director of federal campaigns for the Center for Responsible Lending, where he also focuses on outreach development and student loan debt. Jaylon's higher education work focuses on college affordability, access to college, program integrity, student debt cancellation, HBCUs/MSIs, and DEI, eliminating For-profit institutions from using predatory tactics on students. He previously served on the Department of Education’s Negotiating Rulemaking Committee for Program Integrity. Prior to joining CRL, Jaylon served as the district liaison for Congresswoman Alma Adams of North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District, overseeing stakeholder engagement and policy review through constituent services. He has built a strong foundation in relationship-building, organizing, and advocacy throughout his career.
Jaylon is currently pursuing his Master’s in Public Administration from Wake Forest University. Jaylon holds a B.A. in Political Science from Winston-Salem State University. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, coaching basketball, and playing golf.
